Recently, the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Department of Medical Device Registration and Management of the National Medical Products Administration announced 104 winning units selected through competitive bidding of the artificial intelligence medical device innovation task. With the project of “Intelligent Implantable Retinal Electrical Stimulator System for Visual Perception of the Blind” (Project No.: 2024-AIKFLL-04006), IntelliMicro was successfully selected as the “Winning Unit Selected Through Competitive Bidding of the Artificial Intelligence Medical Device Innovation Task” (Products for Intelligent Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
In 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the National Medical Products Administration had jointly carried out the open competition for selecting the best candidates for artificial intelligence medical device innovation tasks, facing 2 directions, intelligent products and environment support, focusing on 8 categories of tasks, including intelligent auxiliary diagnostic products, intelligent assisted treatment products, medical AI databases, etc. The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of NMPA were entrusted as the organization and management units, and be responsible for the selection through competitive bidding. It is learned that a total of 1,035 projects have been declared in China, after a series of selection, a total of 221 (72 competitive bidding projects, 149 potential projects) project teams with good team foundation, high clinical value and strong technical strength have been shortlisted for the competitive bidding, and 104 (67 key industrial enterprises and 37 authoritative medical institutions) have been selected as the winning units through competitive bidding of the artificial intelligence medical device innovation task.

“Intelligent Implantable Retinal Electrical Stimulator System for Visual Perception of the Blind” is the first-launched project of IntelliMicro’s neuro-modulation technology in the application worldwide, and is an innovative medical device for the treatment of rare diseases of severe to deep retinitis pigmentosa. The project is the first medical device project registered via the rare disease channel in China, and belongs to the category of Class Ⅲ active implantable medical devices. The project is currently the only effective means in the world to help the blind regain their vision, which can effectively help the blind improve their quality of life, and is currently in the clinical trial stage.
In the future, IntelliMicro will continue to make innovation through collaboration, work hard to tackle key problems, so that the project can serve more blind people around the world as soon as possible. At the same time, by relying on brain-computer interface and AI technology, IntelliMicro will make use of its own scientific, technological and medical international resources to actively play the role of “bridge” between China and foreign countries, launch more excellent AI medical device innovative products, promote the realization of more extensive clinical applications, and contribute to the enhancement of human health.
